Finally, an Organic Skin Peel with Microneedling Results
A Treatment for all Skin Complexions
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device with fine needles to create small, controlled punctures called “micro-injuries”. These “micro-injuries” create a wounding response in the skin that initiates skin rejuvenation and the production of collagen and elastin, both of which give the skin firmness and strength. Hence, it has become a sought-after skin treatment for the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, scars/uneven texture, and hyper-pigmentation. Although considered safe, it can be risky for certain individuals and complexions.
What are the Risks?
For people with darker skin complexions, microneedling can potentially cause adverse effects, such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is characterized by the darkening of the skin due to the infliction of injury and inflammation. The body responds to inflammation by producing excess melanin, the natural pigment that gives our skin color and which can be seen after bouts of acne, burns, or any other skin injury.
Other contraindications to microneedling are pregnancy, allergies, poor immunity, malnutrition, and certain medications.
Spicules Offer a Natural Alternative to Microneedling
Spicules are micro-crystals that form the exoskeleton of aquatic sponges. At Lotus Evolutions Holistic Spa we use Baikal spicules. This variety of freshwater sponges are only found in Lake Baikal located in south-east Siberia. Interestingly, Lake Baikal is the oldest and deepest fresh-water lake in the world.
Although the use of spicules is a relatively new treatment here in the US, it has been used in East Asia and Russia for centuries.
How does it work? The spicules are massaged into the skin creating a micro-channeling effect and trans-epidermal delivery system. Once embedded into the skin, they create a histamine reaction that brings blood flow and oxygen to the surface of the skin. As they dissolve over a 72-hour period they release many nutrients into the skin, such as vitamins, minerals, natural steroids (vitamin D), and antibiotics. This cascade of nutrition stimulates collagen, normalizes melanin production, improves cellular health, and supports the skin barrier.
The spicules are 100% natural and organic. They are safe to use on women who are pregnant and breastfeeding. They are also safe for all skin types and complexions, which is why this is a great alternative to microneedling for those with darker complexions.
Additionally, there is no downtime and no risk of infection or unwanted adverse effects.
The results are softening and reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture and tone, less breakouts, and overall better resilience, clarity, and vibrancy for your skin.
The experience itself is relaxing and overall rejuvenating to the mind and body.
